So, yes they are pages. When doing it on your phone, in the Notion app, click the far right icon (that looks like a pen and paper) and you can either set up your board manually or choose from a template (click the ...More button to see them all)
I've found it way easier to create the boards on a laptop, then I set up the shortcuts on my phone. This tutorial is very helpful: www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrhFvIsq86g
Then, to get your boards as widgets, hold your finger down on the background of your iPhone until everything starts to wiggle. Click Edit > New Widget > Notion > I use the 1st widget theme > add widget > done. Tap and hold to set up > edit widget > choose page > find the page you want to link to and click on it!
I’ve been hanging around Substack for a few months….in the margins, that is. I haven’t created a profile as I’m so tech challenged. Never wanted to take the time out of a “busy” life to work with this.
Though I like the companions I have found here. I think I’ve found another….you! Reading your piece here reflects my life since my early 50’s. Always tending the fire of frugality when it comes to being too busy. I have many interests but can’t “do it all”. Just today I made 10 dozen chocolate chip cookies with a contemplative mind focusing on carrying on of my mom’s traditions with love. Took a long time and I didn’t have to do this today. Giving treats to my husband who lives with Parkinson’s, to my friends who love the cookies, and some to the freezer for later use is a happy activity for me. Feeling so present to this activity with love is refreshing. I never tire of being in a contemplative, unrushed activity.
Tina! Firstly, welcome from out of the margins. Secondly, thank you for taking the time to share such lovely words. I'm glad you can resonate with some of my experiences.
I think as women we put insurmountable amounts of pressure to "do it all." So I'm glad you seek out joy in your moments of service to your loved ones.
Love this. Love an hour long phone call instead of 24 hours of texts where you ‘read’ a tone depending on how you feel. Love a uniform, I really want to get there but I’m trying to heal a ‘clothes buying as emotional soothing’ issue right now. Hope to get there soon. This was really useful and soothing in its own way x
Hi Caroline! Thank you for reading and taking the time to share this. Glad so many others love a phone call. RE clothes, I've been there too. I ended up setting myself a rule that I could only buy new clothes from charity shops, which meant I had to hunt for something if I wanted it. It helped heal my relationship with my over-consumption. But it's a journey - and I'm still on it... I think it's a constant battle of having to re-train your brain! So glad you found this useful. H x
I am a millennial and growing up, texting wasn’t always accessible or cheap so I frequently called my friends instead. This has of course changed over the last few years as internet became cheap and texting free. I am slowly bringing back the idea of calling friends to catch up instead of only for urgent matters. Makes me feel more engaged in the conversation.
Hi Heena! Omg texting was so expensive! Landlines were the only way. I love that you're bringing back phone calls in your life. It makes my day when I get a surprise call. Thank you for reading and taking the time to share! H x
Hannah, so many nuggets of slow living.😊I am like your boyfriend, I don't need much variety in my food.😂 But, I still struggled trying not to eat the same things. Not sure why I did; but I am embracing your process; Monday through Friday same foods and go wild on weekends 🎉. Thanks for your perspective.😊
Hi Jane! Thank you for reading and sharing! I'm glad you could take something from the piece — especially if it's forgiveness for not whipping up cordon bleu-level meals, cause who has time for that? 😅
Absolutely resonate with deleting IG and limiting news - most things we have no control over. I’ve realised that if I care enough about *world issue* then I can donate money or volunteering time - makes me feel much better than just consuming relentless bad news. Love the uniform idea - definitely going to do that too 🤗🧡
Absolutely! Donating / volunteering is beautiful and they have actionable results. That's very inspiring. Thank you for reading and taking the time to comment! ❤️
Wow, I thought of comfy, stylish, and romantic! I bet we'd love each other's closets lol. (I'm also trying to come up with what my words would be for me overall as a person!)
Thank you for your lovely piece....it resonates so well with this season of my life. I am in the midst of a transition...since last year I have felt burnt out, stressed out and just feeling that everything is too much. Thankfully, I was laid off from work and as of May 1, I will be unemployed. I am choosing to take some time to slow down and rediscover what brings joy to my life and what lights up my soul. Not having a set plan and really taking things super slow and seeing where the day takes me....I don't remember the last time I woke up when I felt rested, instead of the alarm clock on my phone. I am embracing nature, all things slow and just letting things be. I am not sure what the future holds but I am going to enjoy the journey of rediscovery, cooking from scratch and enjoying my newly planted garden.
Thank you for sharing your story, Mary-Ann! It's so great to connect with like-minded people. I am so excited for what is about to come your way. Some days will feel hard—it's such a huge shift—but you're already seeing the beauty in being able to slow down. That is incredible. Wishing you all the best in your next chapter! x
Loved this piece! May I ask, how do you even create boards on Notion and get them on your phone? Are they pages?
Thank you TJ! Absolutely!

😂😂For sure! I am working on the Monday-Friday lunch and dinners. I have eaten the same breakfast for years😂.
Oh we’re not dragging breakfast in for change, it’s porridge or eggs for me - no time for anything else 🤣
Agreed 🙃😊
"We are not meant to know everything."
Yes, yes, more yes.

What are your three words for how you want to present yourself to the world? 😊
GOOD question! Using Bornstein's method, I'd say: comfy, tailored, romantic! How about you? :)
Wow, I thought of comfy, stylish, and romantic! I bet we'd love each other's closets lol. (I'm also trying to come up with what my words would be for me overall as a person!)
Great minds…! I’ll need to think a little longer on 3 words for me as a person… good homework 😅
