yes I steer clear of how to's and what to's. I do love memoirs of like aged women, not as a map but as a voice for my experiences and feelings. And always novels, poetry and way too man horticulture and gardening books. Supposedly I'm a master of gardening, conservation and naturalism although the more I've learned the more I don't know somehow. But no to anything that defines and narrows my path.

Thank you so much for reading and taking the time to share. I love how you say memoirs can be a voice for your experiences and feelings - that’s really beautiful!

I have stopped all self-help books and gurus (some paid) for 2025. The problem is that I prioritise learning over doing. So now I have to do ‘it’ (or not) and read fiction instead.

This is so true and actually what I’ve missed from the piece. Because I too, like you, was ‘doing’ less. I’ll be reminding myself of that analogy now. ‘Do it, or read fiction.’ Brilliant! Thank you so much for reading, Emma.

Thanks for this piece! I totally agree - getting sucked into self-help just results in pressure and stress. I love delving into the world of fiction, it’s escapism 🙌🏼🧡

HAHA thank you for that very vivid image. I will never be able to think of spinning in the same way again.
