I was a smidge apprehensive about moving back in with the rentals.
It’s only temporary, but as a thirty-one-year-old (already living out of her car), moving back in with my parents is another foghorn reminder that I’m not exactly where I hoped to be at this point in life.
But, hey!
The housesitting journey I embarked on was a stubborn protest against societal expectations; a personal challenge to find happiness down a different route.
So off I go, trudging down the road of self-discovery to see what I can find.
Bren (my housesitting partner in crime) has gone to walk the Camino de Santiago in search of enlightenment, so I’ve travelled north to the Isle of Skye to seek the same, until his return.
It’s a very long walk (780 km). Thus, I’m camping out here for the next six weeks.
Mum’s been plying me with hearty dinners and sweet treats, and Dad services my car every few days.
Turns out, it’s great to be back home.
Keen not to fall into the trap of de-evolving into a teenage slump, I’ve been keeping busy. Running each day (an agreement I stupidly proposed in solidarity with Bren’s continental pilgrimage), swimming, walking, reading, and of course, writing.
Speaking of, I’m still in the throes of editing my first book. I’m loving the process, but my god, it’s a Pandora’s box. The more you dissect and pull, the more work you create for yourself.
As a perfectionist, I’ll have to pry it from my own hands eventually, trusting I’ve done all I can, and that it’s ready for agents and (fingers crossed) the world.
But that day is not today. Back into the editing trenches I go!
Serendipitously, a neighbour had their housesitters pull out at the last minute before their two-week holiday.
And guess who got the gig?
This chick!
I was worried this dispatch would be me informing you about my mum’s progressively worsening backache, or how my dad insists on blaring conspiracy podcasts from his portable Bluetooth speaker from 7 am.
But rejoice! You are saved!
Today’s bumper edition will actually be about a housesit.
And I have lots of recommendations and updates for you. Heeeere we go!
