“Babe, go to the toilet.”

“I can’t. She’s out there on the landing.”

“Darling, she’s a cat. Just go use the loo.”

She plays the same tricks every time: a meow, a brush against your leg, and then she pounces. Feed her? Claw. Ignore her? Claw. Show her love? Claw.

It’s one little black cat, but I’m petrified of her.

We’d signed up for this housesit to relieve ourselves of the time-consuming responsibilities that come with looking after dogs. Turns out, we’ve shot ourselves in the foot and are now sharing the home of a notorious killer.

In the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t matter. Something far more thrilling has happened. We’ve arrived in a new city and fallen in love with it. So much so, we plan on moving here at the end of summer.

After 18 months of nomadic existence, the relief is palpable. Even if a teeny, tiny part of me is upset to see our housesitting adventures come to an end.

So, where in the UK has captured our hearts, I hear you ask?
